The sad truth is yes, page view statistics can be manipulated. There are companies online which employ people to pay for clicking on certain websites every day. This data, when captured on the site, appears like click throughs from innocent surfers, therefore it is used as the basis for the number of people who would have visited your website and or web page within a stipulated time and the innocent advertiser goes home thinking that at least they are getting visitors on their website and or webpage. Google Analytics and the newly introduced Yahoo analytics would be more trustworthy (in my opinion) to stand alone independent server statistics. This explains why I am looking forward to the next two months because, for the first time on www.zimbabwecompanies.com, (funds permitting), we will be able to provide individual page statistics as provided for by Yahoo.
Tomorrow, we talk about Online Versus Print Directory Listing.
Interesting post. How can one tell whether or not you are registering with a good website?
It its online exposure you are seeking, go with a website that does well on the search engines, e.g. Yahoo, MSN, Google, etc.
